The prevalence of neurodevelopmental disabilities in our children is
rising at an alarming rate. Autism now affects a staggering 1 in 150
children (or 1 in 93 boys and 1 in 277 girls) and Attention Deficit
(Hyperactivity) Disorder (ADD/ADHD) is also skyrocketing. In addition,
the incidence of allergies and asthma in our children is climbing - but
why?

"The Canary In The Coal Mine"
"The Canary In The Coal Mine" analogy comes from the practices of
coal-miners evaluating new mines. A man outfitted in heavy respirator
equipment would take a canary in a bird cage down into the depths of a
new mine prior to allowing miners to enter. If the canary died, the mine
was too toxic for men to survive and precautions would be taken. Many
of us believe that our environment has become too toxic and our children
have become the "canaries". The neurodevelopmental epidemics are
one manifestation of this toxicity.
